Oh I want this now. Secret of Mana is one of my favorite games of all time and I've always loved the soundtrack. This track is great and I love that promo image, it's beautiful.
Hey Vincent, as one of the artists who created that cover (Nate), I just wanted to say thank you!
Myself, my brother Kurt, and Ali Floyd spent a loooooooong time on that one.
Much More to come :)
Much more music too!
Thanks for the reminder!
The OneUps songs are bound to be amazing.
"Ka is a wheel" my friend! And yes, I can say that the Tim Yarbrough stuff is INCREDIBLE. Keep your eyes on the site for more updates throughout September! - VikingGuitar
The Mana series has some of my favorite things ever in games. Art, themes, gameplay, and definitely music. I hope some of my favorite tracks made it in!

Edit: whoops. Wrong game. SoM's music is still gold though so I'm happy.
That's a good game to come VC.

Beside the music album, the artist who created the cover for it is also working on a fan art tribute togehter with his brother. Take a look at their gallery on deviantART
Hey Reinhold!
Art is going to be a major part of this album. The cover image was painstakingly crafted by 3 artists. The one you mentioned (Kurt)
As well as Nate "FoxxDragon": http://www.lightningarts.com/
And Ali Floyd "Djantir" (No website currently, but you can see some of his stuff on: vampirevariations.com )
The Goal of the art team is to match the music in quality and expectations. It's a high bar, but they are pushing it!
I downloaded the preview, and the one labeled "The Face of Death" in particular is spectacular just for its use of color. All of the pieces are great, but that one just struck me. So far this album is shaping up to be great in both music and art.
Thank you for that, Cuppa! I (Nate "FoxxDragon") Made that one. It's so great to finally get it out into the world, and hear it be well received :)
Can't wait to show you the rest!
..we know each other from dA or? :-)
Not yet, Sir! I just made an account though. Slooooooooooowly uploading stuff.
I'm the guy that does the Dwelling of Duels art. You've been talking with my brother a lot :)
http://lightningarts.deviantar...
And we will talk too! Oh we will.
Heh, looking forward to see if thats a promise or a threat ;-)
I remember having chicken pox in high school which is a terrible thing in and of itself. My younger brother had them to the same week. Secret of Mana got us through it. It still is in my top 3 games of all time and create my SNES Holy Trinity with Earthbound and Chrono Trigger
As much as I love Lufia 2 and Final Fantasy 6, I agree with you there. Those 3 you mentioned are my favorite SNES RPGs too.
You know, I rarely like remixes (I absolutely adore the original OSTs usually) but seeing as how it's a mana game I'll check it out a bit. The series rocks enough to warrant it.
Kind of a shame they could never make a better game after Secret of Mana. I mean, Seiken Densetsu 3 and Legend of Mana were decent/good games, but nowhere as great as Secret of Mana. And the other games.. are mostly reaally bad.
I still play Secret of Mana today with friends or on my own. One of the best RPGs ever made.
Honestly, I'd say from a pure gameplay standpoint Seiken Densetsu 3 is the better game. That being said, I agree that no game really captures the magic of Secret of Mana. Legend of Mana I actually despise because it is far too great a departure. That and I had a FF8 save on my memory card so I was robbed of a rabite companion.
One day, the Rabite Army will come, I know it.
SD3 does have its good points, and it has a much more robust combat/class mechanic, but I feel like the complications partially smudged away a lot of the fun. The game made a "big deal" about drawing lines between when you were in combat and when you weren't, not the least of which was awkwardly hampering your movement speed. And the class upgrades were done completely blind, with (as far as I remember) no way to correct them if you chose poorly and created an unbalanced party.
The graphics were some of the best on the SNES, though, for sure.
The combat shuffle was my only real annoyance with SD3. I liked it better in SoM when you were free to roam and fight as you will and not suddenly enter into battle and suddenly move at a snail pace. And they had menu rings in SoM so I'm not sure why they changed it up for SD3, but it's a minor quibble.
The reduction in use of the menu rings was surprisingly my biggest complaint about SD3. And there's a bunch of flaws with the game aside. I just like my rings.
They need to bring back that ring menu, it's actually pretty handy. If not for a Mana game, then for whatever. I'd play a Resident Evil game with a ring menu for item and weapon changes.
Secret of Evermore was the 2nd game I enjoyed the most after Secret of Mana (and in some ways I like Evermore even more). I know it's not a Mana game, but it still shares the exact same kind of gameplay. I loved the story setting, the hero and his dog that changed shape as you changed worlds, the alchemy system. I played it only a few years ago and it was surprisingly really fun to play. I think it's amazing when you play an old game for the first time and you're amazed by how fun it is even today.
Those things are generally minor inconveniences compared to the hours upon hours I spent in Secret of Mana going in and out of Todo leveling up my spells every time I got a new Seed sealed.
The party balance thing can be pretty annoying, but you can also conceivably play the game without a healer no matter what choice you make based upon your party. Just means you got to spend a lot of money on healing items. It's far from ideal, though.
And lest we forget: combat shuffle is one thing, spending twenty seconds charging a level 8 sword attack Psycho Crusher was far more tedious. I barely used any charged attacks in SoM because of it.
Yeah, the new class specific super moves were a definite improvement in SD3. Charging to level 8 in SoM took quite a while for battle time, and if you had fought long enough to reach level 8 odds are you could cause the same amount of damage with regular attacks or low level techs.
Secret of Mana is definitely still one of my all-time favourite games. Making a worthy follow-up, or even a superior one, should actually be fairly simple -- but Square just kept piling on over-complicated gimmicks and mundane chores to every sequel they put out. SoM was relatively simple, with easy-to-grasp gameplay. You were never more than a minute away from running around and hacking at monsters.
I will always and forever prefer the other translation of that title, The Holy Intruder, simply because it just sounds more... grand. And that was the game that taught me what that word means.
That is a MUCH better translation! We may just have to rename this song. ;) Thanks Cuppa.
I remember being 7 at the time of the release and watching my brother play through the game, I became mesmerized with the depth of the soundtrack and would put the cartridge on the console just to hear Fear of the Heavens over and over again while I did my homework. I can say this was the first game that taught me that not all VG music is without depth. One of my favorite soundtracks of all time. Greetings from Mexico City, all!
Cheers, Francisco!
Fear of Heavens is one of the downloadable tracks you can grab off the album right now. It's a beast of a tribute. Hope you dig it- and the others!
Digging them more and more, Played all 4 songs nonstop today at work. Viking Guitar, Tim and Grant did a great job! I've always got goosebumps when hearing the howl of the Mana Beast, just tell me there are covers of The Wind Never Ceases and A Bell is Tolling and i'll be even more psyched
Not only can I tell you that EVERY song will be covered (Including the sleep music and menu theme), but those two you mentioned are being done by This guy:
http://coryjohnson.bandcamp.co...
Pretty much every song (if not every song) is going to be covered for the full release. Thanks for listening! - VikingGuitar
GOD. DAMN. Gonna wait for some Steel and Snare Bass Funkiness. Awesome job, you guys! You just sold one copy!
I can tell you straight up that Steel and Snare is particularly amazing. I had the honor of working with the drummer and bassist on another project recently and they can more than hold their own!
Awesome! So now I only need to find a Time Machine and set it to one month in the future, right? right? (Btw, big fan of Ease up, Crono, The Eyes Behind the Mask and Surfside Graveyard, kudos as well!)
Hey thanks man! Those are a couple of lesser known tracks right there! Been meaning to redo "Mask" for a while.
Nice! Let me know when you do it. Cheers, man!
My fancy is thoroughly tickled! Really love the soundtrack. Thanks for the heads up.
Really looking forward to this. SoM has such a great and (sadly) unique soundtrack.
T_T--b
I need this.
If only Square would recognize the anniversary in some awesome way. Not holding my breath for a new title or anything (I'm not even sure if they COULD make a decent Mana game any more), but an official localization (finally) of Seiken Densetsu 3 on virtual console would be killer
Hey everyone! shout-out to Grant (Stemage) Henry for getting us on Dtoid. I'm one of the major artists on the project, the sword image up above was done as a 3 person colab between me, my brother Nate, and his friend Ali Floyd!
Also thanks for the tip Reinhold Hoffman :) We're planning big big things, I hope you guys are exited. There's going to be TONS of music and TONS of art! Be sure to check the site early next month for something cool ;) -FirebornForm
Tis a pretty sword.
As long as you put such effort into the future projects everything should be splendid.
Thanks! We actually went with a big variety of styles for different pieces, but I think everyone will find it will be preeetty hard to disappoint people with what we've got. I'd share a special secret link with you showing all the artwork already made but that would be breaking the "NDA" surprise!
If only Isono could have lived to see the anniversary celebration.
We sadly learned of his passing mid way through the project.
As a member of the Art Team (Nate) I can confidently say the art of this game is just as amazing and inspirational as the music. All we can do is try to do it the best justice we can. This one is for you, Isono.
OHGODOHGODOHGOD YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. My favourite album of all the times finally getting a full remix project.
omgeeeeeeeeeeeerd I hope someone good handles the Crystal Forest theeeme.
Hey Wedge, This guy took up that task:

It's in good hands :)
