Main Setting ------------ - Future Central Ideology ---------------- [3] A big thing in this future time and colony is a colony-wide VR network. -[4]- Virtual Reality is a highly used escape from the stresses of the space colony (searching for planets etc.) - Those authorized may create public VR worlds, while those who aspire to become a VR architect can earn their way up in the field by practicing on private VR servers. - There are colony-wide, district-wide, and private VR servers. - Many private VR servers are created solely for the purpose of hosting one VR world. - World creation rules apply also to those that choose to sleep (see below), but there is no known way to construct VR worlds while in VR. Conventional methods imply that you must construct a VR world while in the real world. - To utilize VR, your body, mind, and soul must be temporarily converted into data. - Sleeping in the VR world will result in permanent loss of your existence in both worlds. Exceptions are made to those with a very strong will, purpose, or driven destiny. - Those who choose to sleep in the VR world AND survive exist only as data, and would be either corrupted or deleted/lost eternally if they tried to return to the real world. @ Those who choose to sleep in the VR world are given a specific name. > What I mean by this is simply that they will be given some terminological nickname other than "those who choose to sleep." < Heh, since "The Sleepers" sounds too cliche, and since I'm no good with names, perhaps you should be the one to take care of that, so [I Agree]. > So I shall :). [CONCLUSION] - Nothing (that most people know of) can copy existence data successfully. Most attempted copies are corrupted or lost, and cause the original to become corrupted or lost as well. - Perhaps some people can exist in both worlds simultaneously, but falsely in the real world (they are ones that chose to sleep, but somehow control a body in the real world). -[9]- No rules of reality are bent or broken in VR worlds - they are realistic in all aspects as far as feasibility goes (until the authorless-and-strange VR worlds show up). -[9]- Because of the above, the VR worlds also have the same kinds of weapons as the real world. Anything made or materials obtained there can be synthesized, made, and/or obtained in the real world. Storyline --------- Note: I wish for there to be a heavy emphasis on storyline in this game, although not too extremely heavy as then the gameplay becomes too directed, and you lose the explorative feeling that we love from Yume Nikki. I'd like a sort of more free-form story, but still a lot there... {?} At some point, the main plot becomes uncovering the mysteries and origins of the VR system, as well as the origins of the anon VR worlds and the anon VR servers. > Did you check this over? Is it clear enough? - A key point in the story is that mysterious, authorless VR worlds with no apparent purpose begin to show up on both public and private servers without authorization. {?} Also, authorless servers either show up with equal anonymity, or have existed and are the first places these authorless worlds show up. > Saying that maybe the anon and unauthorized VR servers existed since the beginning of the game, they're just something like the black market where everyone knows about them but few talk about, go to, or use them, or at least in public. > Checkcheckcheckcheckcheckcheckcheckcheckcheck. - These servers are possibly referred to as "underground servers", although none of the game's terminology has been formed yet. If they just "always had been," then most people pay little-to-no attention to them, and few brave souls use those servers as their own. - Anon servers have a reputation for unreliability and unpredictable data loss. Hence the risk exists of having one's existence forever erased if they should use one. Weapon Ideas ------------ [5a] Main weapons used are a sort of ring that can create shaped energy, and can resize itself. [5b] Initial idea was, all five fingers touch the ring (but do not hold it), and energy spawns on the other side in the shape of a drill. - Other ideas include different energy formations and reactions to different hand shapes or motions touching and going through the ring, such as punching through the center. - These rings float when in use. It is not necessary for a user to grab onto them. [6] Rings' resizability allows it to be used by other parts of the body such as feet, elbows, head. - Perhaps a sort of equivalent to Yume Nikki's effects are different ways to use these ring weapons. [5c] Forms-of-use vary in-game from completely sensical ones obtained from normal and public worlds, to extremely strange and bizarre ones found in the anon worlds. - Ring-weapon forms-of-use are created by special architects who are very few in number, and valued and/or renowned throughout the colony. For a form architect to exist and noone to know of him/her is unheard of and considered highly unlikely. - Form architects likely undergo formal training, and are a select few (according to most people). Gameplay -------- - Oblique-Isometric (OI) style (LTTP-esque) - No fighting is done in OI areas. Rather, all fighting is done in a Side-Scrolling Action Platform (SSAP) style. Players, however, are NOT sent to these kinds of areas just to fight. - Both fighting and exploration occurs in SSAP areas, with surely an equal balance of the two and even possibly more exploring than fighting. - A great deal of all exploration is also done in OI areas, possibly more than that which is done in SSAP areas, with at least an equal balance of the two. - VR worlds are not limited to be solely OI or SSAP. Most are an even blend of the two. - Area style - OI or SSAP - does not limit whether or not NPCs or characters show up. NPCs and characters will exist in any style area as necessary. - Weapon forms-of-use will often act differently according to whether the area is OI or SSAP. [7] (Come up with a potentially unique way to display forms of use?) -[8]- (Can only equip a limited number of forms-of-use at a time? Maybe limit it to 1 like Yume Nikki? If multiple forms-of-use at once, that means basically having assignable shortcuts/macros.) - Not all rings are weapons, some are needed to open/reveal different areas. - Rings vary in color depeding on it's strength or type - Special jewels attached to the rings make up its forms of use (There would be a limited number of rings in the game, but many jewels, when certain combos are created it makes them stronger or makes it into one very strong weapon.) - Special jewels or some kind of attachments - these rings aren't like rings on your finger, but rather more like wrist-esque rings. They can resize, so I suppose it could go on fingers. Think maybe more of a similar look to the TFC halos. Keep in mind to that these rings float usually around the user's hand/arm. > Thats what I was thinking, I hadn't actually thought about finger rings xD - There are different sorts of rings, such as weapon rings, defensive rings, action rings (open doors, portals, make things happen), change rings (make changes to the player), and item/object rings (change shapes such as statues or blocks to move around). - Most rings come with a blank slate for forms-of-use. (All four FOU slots open) - Number of forms-of-use per ring is usually 4, but may differ for action or item/object rings. # You always have the ability to add a certain form-of-use to a ring so long as it has space for it (and is the right kind of ring for that FOU), but once added to, that ring keeps that form-of-use forever. (So you can give multiple rings the same form-of-use - you never lose FOUs once obtained). > I think you should only be able to use an FOU once, and it goes away, but you can buy/find them. < Hmm, Iunno, cuz that's not much like Yume Nikki. Then there's no point really in having FOUs you have to like quest to find, cuz then you'll have to repeat that quest after you use them once. [10] Forms-of-use can swap places with eachother (for the sake of control customizability) but cannot be removed from a ring. "This might be like Phantasy Star Online meets Mega Man Battle Network meets Yume Nikki meets Kingdom Hearts... Probably more meeting that I can't think of right now. Although, Yume Nikki in a way already resembled Kingdom Hearts in some aspects." [1] Do you mean he follows him around? I think maybe we should either revise this idea or remove it entirely, perhaps his friend will be the only one around while his parents are away doing science stuff and whatnot. > Possibly, but more like he's simply this guy's guardian. He doesn't get in your way or anything... I don't feel too extremely strong about the subject so I'm okay with dropping it if need be. < Alright, so he just takes care of your Real World Home and you must/can talk to him, perhaps he tells you what you should do next, or maybe tells you real-world news that might aid you in VR or whatever. > Right, sure :P. [CONCLUSION] [2] I think his friend should always accompany him though the virtual reality/virtual exploration thing. > What do you mean by always? Like, as long as he's around before they're separated? Or even afterward somehow? < Before being separated, I think he should be rejoining you for a while and you can talk to him for hints(?) > Right, that sounds fine, I think. [3] I like the idea, but maybe if it wasn't just a VR network, it was like a real-world exploration system that people use to explore other planets/space. > Mmmaybe, however the fact that it would be VR would seemingly allow for much greater freedom in the creation of the anon worlds, where if it was a real-world exploration system, the craziest we could get is likely a wierd-looking planet with wierd-looking terrain and inhabitants, and would mean that there are no architects of these worlds that are explored. < I started to think, there would be Real-Worlds and VR-Worlds, just for the story I suppose > Not sure what you mean by that, but I would like there to be different RW areas for the player to explore, and not only VR areas, but mostly VR areas. [4] Used for reasearch, escape from stress, ect. > Mmyes. The research part is good of course, but there isn't as much stress to escape from when they're not on a colony searching for a new planet, I don't think. If they were on a colony searching for a new planet, they'd likely have limited food rations and perhaps energy, and would have to make risky planet "hit-and-runs" to get whatever resources they can scourge from different planets. I think a colony-wide stressfulness and tension is present with this idea. If you can come up with something other than a space colony with limited resources that would place a massive group of humans in a tense situation like this, please tell me! I'm all for being original and non-cliche but this is all I can come up with for now... < I thought we got rid of the colony, anyways, allow me to revise my original statement < The VR Net work would could be used by researchers as an easier way to examine the universe, It would also be used basically like the internet is used today, for recreation and entertainment. > We agreed that the colony was too cliche, yes, but I still don't see a suitable substitute for it. VR would play a much more important role in a colony with said limitations and tensions, because VR would be almost the only escape for people on the colony to relieve their stress about their situation. Also, it would be more important in that the different environments it could expose people to could be used to train people who assist in those planet "hit-and-runs," whereas in a society like ours today where it is used solely as a form of entertainment, the fact that anon worlds are popping up is just like a "who cares?" type of thing. Sure, you could still explore them, but there wouldn't be too much at stake... When a massive group of people depends on the VR system, it's a bigger deal, no? I dunno... [5] I don't quite understand, care to ellaborate? (a&b) > I'll probably just need to draw these ideas out for you. It's kinda all in the head. (c) > What I mean by this is, the authorized worlds will have basic stuff like an uppercut attack for offensive FOUs or hats and caps for change FOUs, while anon worlds would have stuff like a black hole attack for offensive FOU or a snake-arm for a change FOU. < Alrighty [6] What would this be used for? > Different attacks or FOUs triggered by foot movements like kicks, or perhaps surround parts of the body like the feet to allow a slower falling rate, and such stuffs. < Okay I understand, so certain jewels can only be attached to certain body part rings? > More like... One ring, and because it floats you can easily use it with a different body part. So using it with a different body part is necessary to trigger certain FOUs. Really this is just a concept idea, and won't matter a whole lot in game since a player will likely press a single key to trigger any given FOU in the corresponding usage slot. [7] (OI) I was thinking a little ring-menu floating around the character, and for selection you hold a menu button (that displays small icons around the character) and you press a direction to select them. (it doesn't select untill you let go of menu maybe) (SSAP) hold menu, left or right to move selection left or right. > Sure. We'll come up with these UI parts when necessary. Or maybe it'd be better to draw some mock-ups and decide now... According to my game business class, the latter is the better or more proffessional choice. < I'll also draw something up. :D [8] Only 4 forms of use per ring. > Sounds good to me for attacking- and defending-related rings, but maybe less or even just one for action and item/object rings. < That works for me. [CONCLUSION] [9] (Reasons to keep) [#:##:## AM] Saber Mage says: the reason i added those two is to kind of balance out the player's desire to be in VR worlds more than the real world [1:26:27 AM] Martin Aldridge says: oh [1:26:31 AM] Martin Aldridge says: i see what you meant [1:26:37 AM] Martin Aldridge says: now i do [1:27:11 AM] Martin Aldridge says: it'd be cool if like in mmbn you have to do stuff inthe real world to affect thigns in VR [1:27:42 AM] Saber Mage says: like i want the real world to have something the VR doesn't that'll make players want to play in and explore it as well [1:28:19 AM] Saber Mage says: yeah [1:30:00 AM] Saber Mage says: so basically what i'm saying there is, there's still a lot of potential for the authorized VR worlds, like you could have floating cities and stuff, just so long as that kind of thing was possible in the real world, and not necessarily that the people of that time can make it happen with the materials they have access to [1:30:29 AM] Saber Mage says: but authorized VR worlds couldn't have like floating cows and trees that grow money [1:30:51 AM] Saber Mage says: that's the kind of stuff that would show up in the mysterious anon worlds... i mean, stuff so much crazier than that even xP [1:31:22 AM] Martin Aldridge says: yeah [1:31:29 AM] Martin Aldridge says: perhaps [1:31:40 AM] Martin Aldridge says: you can only stay in the anon worlds for so long [1:31:41 AM] Martin Aldridge says: and [1:31:49 AM] Martin Aldridge says: upgrades increase that ammount of time [1:32:13 AM] Martin Aldridge says: gnight [1:32:43 AM] Saber Mage says: perhaps at first, you can't even visit them because you need some kind of ring that can predict the next world data blip < I didn't understand at first, but I totally agree with this. I think you should want to explore both the real world and the VR world. [CONCLUSION] [10] What would be the point of this? > Say one slot is an air jump FOU that you trigger with the W key, and another is a dash FOU that you trigger with the S key. This way, you could swap which key triggers what FOU. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~SPURNED IDEA LIST~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Main Characters --------------- Main Setting ------------ # Space Colony (something like PSO) [Too cliche] Central Ideology ---------------- Storyline --------- Weapon Ideas ------------ # Because the rings can change to a great variety of sizes, such forms-of-use could include solidifying shaped energy to mock another item such as a bottle or a key. Gameplay -------- # Most likely no fighting done in OI areas, though possibly.
