One of the undocumented features in PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.50 is the recovery menu. If your PS3 fails to load the XMB, with the PS3 off, hold down the power button for 10 seconds until you hear three beeps. Press the PS button on the controller and the recovery menu will load. Use the recovery menu to unbrick your PS3 by installing a firmware update or preforming other actions.

umm i hold the power button down and i get one beep (which is the auto video mode detect thing) and a few seconds after that it shuts back down. no triple beeps!

works fine for me and actually i think this was implemented by sony so when you send your console to them to get it fixed they can fix it right off the bat by using this they most likely didn't want us to know about it because now we can fix are own PS3's if the file system is corrupt or the update data is currupt

Oh my god. Do you have a NTSC 60gig? Why are you telling me it doesn't make a difference. Please do not act like you know what you are talking about, if you have not testing ALL versions of the PS3 yourself, or have concrete evidence of any version workings.

Yea i apoligize it does work, but i did have to go through another forum to confirm all versions of the PS3 function and a different way to do it.
