Sample Pack Contest VI - Scoring Template Your name/pseudonym: KungFuFurby - Give scores for ALL the songs except for your own (if you have any.) - Scores are out of 100, where 100 = faultless/perfect, and 0 = totally void of merit/worst song ever. - Do not use fractions. - Commenting on songs is optional. - E-mail as an attachment to daveharris.lunar@gmail.com Some aspects to consider when scoring: - Sound design: ingenuity with and manipulation of the source samples, modification of samples to create new sounds, etc. - Composition: structure, melody, harmony, rhythm, basically how well written you think the song itself is, etc. - Production: mixing/mastering (balance between instruments, overall loudness if it's a factor), stereo field use, frequency spectrum use (good use of EQ), use of effects, etc. - Overall enjoyment: simply how much you like the song. - Anything else you deem important. consider these elements on a case by case basis, as some may be more or less applicable depending on the song. how much you factor each into your scoring is up to you - if you wish, you may set aside a certain number of points for each element if it makes the judging process easier for you, however the total scores are the only thing that will be relevant in score calculations. ________ SCORES: 1999 or 2012: N/A/100 A Song for My Cat: 80/100 Akira Yamaoka vs Ken Ishii: 75/100 Alleyway in Chinatown: 55/100 Aqua Aura Pura: 65/100 Aya Hirano's Megaton Punch: 60/100 Bad Tekno: 35/100 Candy Rock Jam: 80/100 Cloudtrip: 75/100 Corruption of the Tune: N/A/100 Cyberdemon Boogie: 45/100 DanielDellaCocco: 70/100 Deep Throat Tengoku: 60/100 Doctor Mars: 50/100 Everybody Wants Overcalculated Scientist Orgasms: 65/100 Extra Antler Velvet: 55/100 Gateway to Happiness: N/A/100 Go Go Power!: N/A/100 Green Grass: 65/100 How to Open a Can of SPC: N/A/100 I sneak up and hitcha in the crotch: 70/100 King of the Crypt: 55/100 Legend of Sample Pack Compo: N/A/100 Martian Lab at Midnight: 65/100 Medium Zero: 75/100 Mr. Huffletuff's Kitty Cat Cosmic Escapades: 80/100 No Bananas for Deborah: 60/100 Nobody Wants Overcalculated Scientist Orgasms: 65/100 Omnious Abbey: 75/100 Our Heliocentric Garden: 75/100 PRUNEAU: 55/100 Riding the Duckdragon: 75/100 Seven Proxies: 45/100 Slick Venus: 65/100 Spaz Premium: 40/100 Tarot Pharoah: 70/100 Ten-Chan Looks Like Joey Wheeler: 40/100 Tertiary Jump: 65/100 The Incredible Cat Mincer: 60/100 Tidal Chamber: 75/100 Trop Glop Flop: 70/100 TV Surfer: N/A/100 U.B. This is the last entry that I produced. I figured I'd make a song that dealt with maybe combining an end-of-the-world scenario (using "2012" as the end of the world... this is in relation to a movie title) with furbies. I intentionally withheld the furby reference thinking that it would be a bit too blatant. For those of you curious: I played the sample many times over with different offset commands to turn the MutantToy sample into a robot-synth-like melodic sample. ________ A Song for My Cat Comments: What a way to use the cat sample, complete with other vocal samples! It's definitely impressive. ________ Akira Yamaoka vs Ken Ishii Comments: Sorry, I don't really get the reference, unless you're trying to combine a Japanese horror game soundtrack with Japanese DJ music. ________ Alleyway in Chinatown Comments: Use of kitty samples to emulate singing along with other vocals? That's interesting... and part of the tune somehow caught on for a moment. Maybe you should get those loop points in better order, though. I actually thought things got a bit messy towards the end, though. ________ Aqua Aura Pura Comments: ________ Aya Hirano's Megaton Punch Comments: OK, that sounds like dusthillresident... both the trackname and the sound of the track. Did you base yours off of Kirby Super Star's Megaton Punch track? ^_^ Strange ending, as an extra note... ________ Bad Tekno Comments: I thought this was unusual... consistency was not of importance to this tune, and I thought that didn't seem like a good thing. If there were a high point, I'd pick the middle of the tune or three quarters of the way into the tune. I thought I heard the last part before in terms of the melody... just before the tune ends. ________ Candy Rock Jam Comments: Very fancy to start with! I don't go this fancy with my tune... plus, I personally don't feel a need to do that. It seems to have a wide variety of styles... and boy did you use the EpicCymbal sample in a clever way! ________ Cloudtrip Comments: I sometimes use that type of melody like that, but not like that. I'm almost tempted to refer to F-Zero's White Land I for a comparison... this is what the tune reminds me of. Congratulations on getting longest tune... behind me. ________ Corruption of the Tune Comments: This one's mine. It is the second entry that I made, while I was experimenting with the samples. Consider this to be a bit of a joke tune... part of this was me fooling around with the samples. ________ Cyberdemon Boogie Comments: ________ DanielDellaCocco Comments: ________ Deep Throat Tengoku Comments: ________ Doctor Mars Comments: You make me think of some sort of a classic video game tune turning into this when modernized by us, the composers. ________ Everybody Wants Overcalculated Scientist Orgasms Comments: You make me wonder why you named the tune like that... ________ Extra Antler Velvet Comments: ________ Gateway to Happiness Comments: This one's mine, This is the third one of the bunch, and I consider this one to be the best of the bunch (maybe my prediction will be right in that this one does the best of all my 13 tunes!)... and the longest tune of SPC 6. I finally got some good drums, and based on advice from the boards (I didn't ask the questions, personally), I actually used the vocal samples as melodic samples. This tune might as well be so well-made on my end that people might not think it's me if those ears aren't as keen. ________ Go Go Power! Comments: This one's mine. This is the first of eight SNES tunes that I made. I'm not kidding: real SNES tunes (and I have real SPCs of them by using mukunda's SNESMod)! I took the acronym SPC literally and made a mini-soundtrack that might fit in a game. For this track, I chose this to be a boss theme. I'll admit that I realized it wouldn't be so easy to do SNES game soundtracks for the other SPCs when I decided to do SPC 1 (I plan on doing SPCs 2-5 as well and make them into SNES psuedo-game soundtracks... though after going for SPC 1, I wonder how tough the other four will be...). So note to myself: Next time, just include them as a bonus SPC set, not real entries... ________ Green Grass Comments: ________ How to Open a Can of SPC Comments: This one's mine. This is the second of eight SNES tunes that I made. I'm not kidding: real SNES tunes (and I have real SPCs of them by using mukunda's SNESMod)! I took the acronym SPC literally and made a mini-soundtrack that might fit in a game. For this track, I chose this as more of a main theme... AKA, all-around. Note that I used echo for this one and a few others... I took advantage of the SNES's echo for added effect... and the fact that if I did it using Schism Tracker, I'd probably be juggling between what works and what doesn't work for a bit too long. ________ I sneak up and hitcha in the crotch Comments: Just by the trackname alone I think dusthillresident was involved in some sort of fashion. The tune is quite crazy. Wacky in its own way. '^_^ ________ King of the Crypt Comments: ________ Legend of Sample Pack Compo Comments: This one's mine. This is the third of eight SNES tunes that I made. I'm not kidding: real SNES tunes (and I have real SPCs of them by using mukunda's SNESMod)! I took the acronym SPC literally and made a mini-soundtrack that might fit in a game. For this track, I chose this as an opening/storyline theme, and in honor of Sample Pack Contest, I did name this track like this. This is the longest SNES tune that I have, and you can consider it to almost be a draw with Gateway to Happiness. However, since this one's looping, it doesn't really count. Also, I did use echo, though it's pretty faint here. ________ Martian Lab at Midnight Comments: ________ Medium Zero Comments: ________ Mr. Huffletuff's Kitty Cat Cosmic Escapades Comments: ________ No Bananas for Deborah Comments: ________ Nobody Wants Overcalculated Scientist Orgasms Comments: My senses say the same composer made this... just based on the track name. However, the tune sounds unusually different, though it keeps some of the old effects. ________ Omnious Abbey Comments: ________ Our Heliocentric Garden Comments: I sense loop point fail during the opening and ending, but it sounded quite nice otherwise. ________ PRUNEAU Comments: I thought there was too much drum and not enough melody. ________ Riding the Duckdragon Comments: There are two possible composers for this track, based on trackname alone. ant1... or smh. If it's someone that's not these two, then boy was I fooled! Almost reminds me of a NES the way the tune opens. ________ Seven Proxies Comments: ________ Slick Venus Comments: ________ Spaz Premium Comments: You remind me of the saying, "all bark and no bite". You've got plenty of vocal FX/drums (bark), but not really a melody (bite). ________ Tarot Pharoah Comments: ________ Ten-Chan Looks Like Joey Wheeler Comments: This reminds me of Spaz Premium... all bark and no bite. It does have a bit more of a melody, though. ________ Tertiary Jump Comments: ________ The Incredible Cat Mincer Comments: I did note some synching problems in the tune, though it's a nice tune otherwise. By the way, at the end, did the kitty fall off the cliff? Sorry, just curious. ________ Tidal Chamber Comments: Ahh... nice and relaxing... -_- ________ Trop Glop Flop Comments: ________ TV Surfer Comments: This one's mine. This is the fourth of eight SNES tunes that I made. I'm not kidding: real SNES tunes (and I have real SPCs of them by using mukunda's SNESMod)! I took the acronym SPC literally and made a mini-soundtrack that might fit in a game. For this track, I chose this as one of two possible level themes. The musical track might suggest you're inside a TV... hence the reason why I named the track this way. ________ U.B. Funky Comments: This one's mine. This is the fifth of eight SNES tunes that I made. I'm not kidding: real SNES tunes (and I have real SPCs of them by using mukunda's SNESMod)! I took the acronym SPC literally and made a mini-soundtrack that might fit in a game. For this track, I chose this as one of two possible level themes. I used echo for some effect, though most of the time it's pretty faint. ________ Untitled Comments: Your filesize, bigger than any other SPC 6 tune, tells me you mean business. Must be to get all those high quality sounds out. If I were to wing it, I'd pluck this out as maybe the one and possibly only Blitz Lunar tune. ________ Way Out - No Way Comments: This one's mine. This is the sixth of eight SNES tunes that I made. I'm not kidding: real SNES tunes (and I have real SPCs of them by using mukunda's SNESMod)! I took the acronym SPC literally and made a mini-soundtrack that might fit in a game. For this track, I chose this as a tune you'd probably get when you get Game Over... AKA, you lost the game. I used echo with a long delay, and I simply did that since this tune is to represent your defeat. ________ We Hate the 1998 Wave Comments: This one's mine. This is the seventh of eight SNES tunes that I made. I'm not kidding: real SNES tunes (and I have real SPCs of them by using mukunda's SNESMod)! I took the acronym SPC literally and made a mini-soundtrack that might fit in a game. For this track, I chose this as a final boss theme, and if you get the reference, commence really freaky furby coming right at you! Quick! Destroy it! ________ Welcome to SPC 6 Comments: This one's mine. This is the first entry that I produced, so it's experimental, compete with joke ending (Say kids, what time is it? Past your bedtime? What, my music is keeping you from falling asleep?). ________ WHAT THE @#$%!! Comments: Now this is horrific! I could use this as the final phase of a final boss! A bit shallow in some areas, though. Also, try to get that ending to not cut off like that. ________ Whippin' Good Comments: This one's mine. I made this one to have a whippin' good time with one of the samples, which I found quite interesting. So have a whippin' good time with this factory-like tune. ________ WorldJ Comments: This is the type of tune that I wish had better synching on the drums... not kidding here, I'm afraid. I found the beat to be out of sync, which made the entire tune out of sync. ________ Zen You Reach Ze State of Completeness Comments: This one's mine. This is the last of eight SNES tunes that I made, and the grand finale of the SPC 6 soundtrack alphabetically. I'm not kidding: real SNES tunes (and I have real SPCs of them by using mukunda's SNESMod)! I took the acronym SPC literally and made a mini-soundtrack that might fit in a game. This one serves as the ending track, giving it a double meaning: end of the soundtrack alphabetically, end of the game. There's echo with a half decent sized delay as if you were finally in peace with the game... ________
