# Top 5 halo mount complaints

1. **(12 reports)** The headset has poor optical stability. The added 97 grams of weight and singular mounting point results in inertia not suitable for active experiences.
2. **(10 reports)** It is difficult to achieve and maintain proper optical alignment during use. Limited range of tilt and finnicky eye relief are cited as most problematic. Weight and slippage over time are also cited.
    - *I attempted to gain understanding of the tilt range issue by discussing with the affected users. However, their feedback felt unclear. I still don't exactly understand how the halo mount is failing to acommodate their needs.*
3. **(10 reports)** The adhesive used to secure the mounting bracket has users upset in multiple ways. They feel:
    - *Uncertain they would be able to reliably align the bracket*
    - *Uneasy about the adhesive's longevity over the duration of ownership, and*
    - *Frustrated about its incompatibility with third party accessories such as face tracker clips and the Studioform X1-B interface (a universal cushion offering).*
4. **(5 reports)** The cushionless configuration is unusable for some testers. They cited positional instability of the mount and adjustment points as their main issues, where the headset would end up slipping down and pressing on their nose or eyes over time.
5. **(5 reports)** Our audio strap cable is too short for halo mount compatibility. Most testers mentioned this in reference to the ability to flip up the HMD. However, one case mentioned it was too short to be usable with halo at all (larger head + strap extenders?).
6. **(5 reports... tiebreaker)** The total price for a solid, reliable halo mount experience is $300 (audio strap $120 + halo mount $180). Users cited that the product quality does not feel up to par with that $300 price point, especially while it is lacking the dedicated flip-up feature.

1. **Improve user confidence surrounding the mounting bracket adhesive.** Pack extra mounting brackets and/or adhesive cuts into the box.
    - *Either solution helps quell anxieties around an accidental misaligned application.*
    - *An extra bracket or two makes it easier for the user to quickly retry application, or to modify multiple Beyond HMDs in their household for intermittent halo usage.*
2. **Bracket adhesives came loose during usage for 4 testers.** Pack in disposable alcohol wipes to help the user ensure HMD surfaces are ready for secure sticking.

3. **The audio strap cable is too short for it to work properly with the halo mount.** Source and pack in a suitable USB-C extender.
4. **Don't ship until the flip up feature is ready.** The product value proposition is not fully there without it.

## "Nice to fix"
1. Improve the bracket alignment process
    - *Solution proposal: Introduce sticky disposable plastic tabs with guiding features, akin to those used in phone screen protector kits.*
2. **Optical alignment-adjacent:** The universal cushion exhibits a compression force while the headset is positioned at the ideal eye relief. This force pushes the HMD away, causing eye relief to shift (FOV reduction) immediately after the halo mount is locked in place.
    - *Solution proposal: Ship halo mounts with a third "EXTRA SOFT" universal cushion. 30A silicone?*
3. **AOC is cumbersome during halo mount adjustment + flip-up.** Pack in a more flexible USB-C extender that is compatible with it.
    - *Suggestion: Right angle for both the audio strap and input cable extenders. Enables the cables to follow the strap arms up to the halo before reaching the extenders.*

### Ignorable
1. **Optical alignment.** While this is a major complaint, the flip-up design will change that UX dramatically. It isn't feasible to address this properly until users can test flip-up.
  - *Ville cited that pre-torque on the halo mount screws still needs to be properly defined. This may also affect reliability of optical alignment.*
  2. **Adhesive as the mounting solution.** This choice was vetted by the hardware team long ago, and our reasons for choosing it still stand. No action to take.
  3. **Optical stability.** Any improvements to be made require deep-reaching design changes that would delay the product by many additional months.
