That made it treat the change as code, the safe direction, so nothing was lost that day. But on the CI runners it would never have reported a docs-only push, so the feature would have been dead in practice.\\n\\n**Cause, confirmed on the Linux runner itself (read-only ssh):**\\n- The runner reuses its git folder between runs. The previous run had left the older main commit `c185326b` in it.\\n- The new shallow fetch of main cut off `0854bbe8` from its parent `c185326b`, so git's history ended one commit short.\\n- My check only asked whether `c185326b` existed, which it did, so it never fetched more history. Git then couldn't connect the two commits, and my code read \\\"can't tell\\\" as \\\"no\\\".\\n\\n**The fix.**\\n- The check now fetches more history until git can actually connect the two commits.\\n- It says \\\"not an ancestor\\\" only when it has the full history.\\n- An unresolved case gets its own label, `before-undecidable`.\\n- Both cases still run units.\\n\\n**Evidence.**\\n- I added two self-tests first. They failed on the shipped code while the other 17 passed, and all 19 pass after the fix.\\n- I rebuilt the runner's exact git state locally. The shipped check reproduces the wrong answer. The fixed one fetches more history and classifies the range correctly as code.\\n- IR-146's change comes out docs-only under the fixed check.\\n\\n**Acceptance run.** I rewrote the prediction for the IR-146 acceptance run (the first version is kept in the same file). That made it treat the change as code, the safe direction, so nothing was lost that day. But on the CI runners it would never have reported a docs-only push, so the feature would have been dead in practice.\\n\\n**Cause, confirmed on the Linux runner itself (read-only ssh):**\\n- The runner reuses its git folder between runs. The previous run had left the older main commit `c185326b` in it.\\n- The new shallow fetch of main cut off `0854bbe8` from its parent `c185326b`, so git's history ended one commit short.\\n- My check only asked whether `c185326b` existed, which it did, so it never fetched more history. Git then couldn't connect the two commits, and my code read \\\"can't tell\\\" as \\\"no\\\".\\n\\n**The fix.**\\n- The check now fetches more history until git can actually connect the two commits.\\n- It says \\\"not an ancestor\\\" only when it has the full history.\\n- An unresolved case gets its own label, `before-undecidable`.\\n- Both cases still run units.\\n\\n**Evidence.**\\n- I added two self-tests first. They failed on the shipped code while the other 17 passed, and all 19 pass after the fix.\\n- I rebuilt the runner's exact git state locally. The shipped check reproduces the wrong answer. The fixed one fetches more history and classifies the range correctly as code.\\n- IR-146's change comes out docs-only under the fixed check.\\n\\n**Acceptance run.** I rewrote the prediction for the IR-146 acceptance run (the first version is kept in the same file). IR-146 will be rebased onto #258, so the run only counts if it starts from #258's landed sha.\\n\\nA background watch is waiting for doyle to land #258.
